recently a few programs recorded a few years ago popped up. all about emigration of HK people to other places.
the push-pull factor is common for all. while some settled very well into a new place, others still have their hearts very much tied to this homeland.
John Tsang, who himself ran for CE election and lived in US before, said he ran for election because he did not want to see many more people leaving, for he understood how it feels like to be away from this place we have long considered home.
i was very moved. if only he was the CE….things might be very different
we were the generation of very little political sensitivity / concern. when we were small, most people very poor. many lived in crowed public housing. to improve financial conditions becomes almost the only goal for many.
after half a century, things finally gets a bit better, our children now adults, we are a bit better off than before though still under great pressure of high property price.. it should be the time for a very relaxed life, to do things we did not have the chance to do while we were young, or simply enjoy the ordinariness of everyday life.
yet, alas, comes this extradition bill and the subsequent use of excessive force on peaceful demonstrators….. the whole town was stunned, big blow…
even people like us who are not used to express our views publicly feel an urge to speak up / stand out. for justice, peace, harmony, and our next generation..
there are many cute babies / toddlers near where we live. their innocence and happy faces reminds me that i have to do something. there is also a poster i just saw lately saying something like “it is that difficult to have dinner with family members at home”? the purpose is to ask the mass to join 612 protest.
i believe the common goal for many is the same : simple life , happy times with family and friends, enjoy meals together, have a cup of tea, eat some buns 🙂
when even this very basic human right is threatened so that everyone needs to live in fear, all will have no doubt to stand up and defend this bottom line.
how then becomes the next question.
may we all remember there are many options. violence might not be needed. thoughts are powerful tools.
have faith that the divine order shall be restored. that there is a place for temporary disorder, for it is usually during great sufferings/ imbalances that the mass awaken quickly, and transformation occurs.
Blessings be to all
